Esperanza was founded by Rev. Luis A. Cortés and the Hispanic Clergy of Philadelphia in 1987. Together they formed a community development corporation that would carry the vision of hope to the people, thus the name of Esperanza (Hope).
Esperanza’s main focus is to provide Hispanics with services that accurately reflect their needs, build ownership and strengthen communities. Our main key areas of work are: Advocacy, Capacity Building, Workforce Development, Education and Community Development.
Tesoros de Esperanza (Treasures of Hope) is our Abstinence Education Program− which is most likely the reason why we have come across each other today. Esperanza is educating young people like you about healthy behaviors and providing resources needed to learn about the benefits of sexual abstinence until marriage.
Esperanza is also joined in this effort by two community partners who are making a difference in our communities – La Familia Hispana and Templo Calvario CDC. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, ACF, Family and Youth Service’s Bureau’s Community Based Abstinence Education Program.
So, why abstinence?
- Because you deserve the truth… a straight talk on the issues no one talks about!
- Because we believe that teens should be empowered to make healthy life decisions.
- Our
commitment is to support the emotional, physical, and intellectual
well being of our community
which includes our young people – our Treasures of Hope for a better future!
